QuestionI have a Theresa Winkelmann cattelaya orchid that is 5 years old. This
summer it produced 4 blooms pods but only 2 developed into flowers. I did
notice that the developed flowers were on one side of the pot and the two
that did not were on the opposite side. Any ideas or helpful suggestions on
how to prevent this next year. I am thinking about repotting soon or should I
wait till spring.
Thanks
George
AnswerHello George,
While I am not quite sure what caused 2 of the flower buds to blast while the other 2 did not but here are some things you might consider.
1. They were closer to a window and exposed to colder temperatures.
2. Water left over night allowing a fungus to grow on them.
3. Plant was not able to support more than 2 flowers.
Unless the cattleya plant appears to be in dire trouble, it would be best to wait until spring to repot. Until then, gather the supplies you will need.
Hope this helped.
