Question
I RCVD A PHALAENOPSIS ORCHID FROM 1800 FLOWERS, BUT THERE IS A PLASTIC COVERING THE ROOTS AND MOSS,BUT NOT THE TOP, AND IT ALSO CAME IN A METAL FLOWER POT,THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST PLACE TO HAVE IT IN. WHAT WOULD BE THE IDEAL POT TO REPLANT IN?? ANY OTHER ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ALSO!

Answer
Eileen, I recommend that you repot it in a plastic pot with lots of air/drainage holes in the bottom.  Use fresh orchid potting mix. You can obtain a bag of this at a Lowes or Home Depot garden center.  Be sure it has fir bark in it. Soak a portion while you unpot your plant.  Rinse the old potting mix from the roots and remove any Mushy roots as they are dead or dying. You may want to use a slightly larger pot for repotting.  Rotate the plant as you lower it into the new pot and then begin adding the new wet potting mix.  Do this in an area where the excess water can run off.  Tap the pot as the fresh orchid potting mix is added to help distribute it among the roots.  They grow best in an east facing window. Water once per week in the morning. Repot in fresh orchid potting mix after each flowering.
