Hi Jim, i am very new to Orchids, i have had a couple given to me for presents and have fallen in love with them. One is doing really well but the other one although seems to be ok has little grayish blotches on the flowers. Is there anything i can do or is this normal. Regards Carol

Hi Carol,

From your description, it sounds like you may have a fungus on the flowers.  Have you sprayed or misted the flowers since you received them?  It is possible that some water droplets remained on the flowers overnight and the fungus spores found a home and grew their large family.  I'm afaid after 24 hours, those spots are more or less permanent.  

It is best to do any watering, spraying or misting in the mornigh to allow enough time for water on the leaves and flowers to evaporate before night time.  It also helps if there is some light air movement around them.
