QuestionI just received a phaleanopsis orchid as a gift. It was bought from a stand on the street and, while it generally seems to be in good health. There are 2 or 3 flowers that have very brown patches on the end of the leaves. They look almost as if they were "singed" or burnt up on the ends. Otherwise, there are 4 or 5 flowers that look perfect. Should I cut the flowers with the brown petals off? If so, how do I do so?
Also, it looks a little big for the pot it came in. I was thinking of re-potting. Is it ok to do so now, while it's in bloom.
Thank you!
AnswerRaelynn, I would wait to repot until it has finished flowering. It sounds as if the flowers that have brown patches were either sunburned and/or watered late in the day. You may cut the flowers off or just pinch them off where they join the flower spike.
