QuestionI've been plant sitting for my boss's orchid. I watered it and noticed that when I returned from the weekend, all the flowers were drooping. Is there any way this plant can be revived?
AnswerHello Liz,
Without knowing a little more about the orchid, it is difficult to say what may or may not be wrong with your boss's orchid plant. There are many different kinds of orchids, some with flowers that last several months and others with flowers that last only one day. Plus, depending upon how long the flowers have been open, it just may be that they are dying a natural death.
If it has somewhat wide leafs that are thick and sort of oval in shape, it may be a phalaenopsis orchid. Phal. flowers can last for 2 months under fair conditions and longer under ideal conditions.
Additionally, here are some things that can cause orchid flowers to wilt and die suddenly before it is time: fruits close by, sudden temperature changes of more than 15F, low humidity, lack of air movement around it, freshly painted walls and/or vapors from some cleaning chemicals.
Sorry I could not be of more help at this time.
