miltonidium bartley schwartz

Question
I am a 1st time owner so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I bought my bartley in early march 2008 fully bloomed w/3 spikes. Then I got bugs. I had snails & scale. I worked very hard and maniged (I hope) to get rid of them. I haven't seen a sign of either for awhile and then I saw new growth. I have 4 new leave sprouts and lots of roots but I keep getting yellow leaves that eventually fall off.  Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you for your help.

Answer
Janet, I recommend you repot your plant in fresh orchid potting mix.  This is an ideal time for that while you have new growth.  It may be that some of the older leaves are turning yellow due to root rot.  Orchids, as a rule, should be repotted in orchid pottingmix every year when they put out new growth.  When you unpot your plant, rinse off the roots well and remove any that appear mushy or stringy and fall apart.  Retain only the firm, healthy roots.
