QuestionHELP! My orchid plant is damaged. The pot was dropped and now the flowers are disconnected from the stems, but still all connected to eachother. I put the flowers into a bowl of water(yesterday)-just trying to salvage any part to hopefully have the orchid all alive together again- and the flowers are doing well. There are stubs of stems and very, (now), small pieces of leaves,(I trimmed of the damaged parts), still connected to the roots. So I gathered the roots and repotted them w/the same dirt...so what I am getting to is -
1.How can I "repot the flowers since they are disconnect from the roots (if @ all possible)? and
2.Will the plant recover to sprout again (the part still connected to the roots)? Please Help...thank you
AnswerCarrie, I assume you have a phalaenopsis orchid. You can save the plant by repotting the roots and (and part of the plant connected to them) in a fresh pot and fresh orchid potting mix. Only the roots should be placed in the new orchid potting mix. Be sure to remove any mushy or damaged roots before repotting. The plant should develop new roots and leaves over the next few months. If you have a typ of orchid other than a phalaenopsis, my advice will be different. You will not be able to root the flowers so enjoy the blossoms while they last.
