QuestionMy Intergeneric orchid (not sure exactly what kind and cant find the tag) had
aphids, i treated it for aphids and the plant itself seems to have recovered but
all the flowers have fallen off. The spike is now starting to dry out and turn
brown from the tip. Should I cut it back to the base of the plant at this point?
let it keep going? or cut it back a few notches?
AnswerHello Katherine,
If the spike it starting to turn brown, go ahead and cut it off. Most orchids produce flowers once on a spike after which the spike turns brown and dies back to the base. Some, but not all, phalaenopsis are one of the few orchids capable of producing blooms on the same spike over several years, but you said yours was an intergeneric and not a phal.
Take care of it and keep it growing and it will bloom again next winter.
