QuestionI just bought a phalaenopsis orchid and it has 3 spikes all with many blooms, and dark leaves but it looks too small for the pot and a bottom leaf is yellow and wilted. What should I do with it, should I repot it or wait until it's finished blooming?
Thanks very much, Melissa
AnswerHello Melissa,
I would leave it alone for now and just enjoy the blooms. Although the pot may look too small for the size of the phalaenopsis plant, it actually is probably the perfect size for it. Phalaenopsis orchids have fairly large leaves which can be deceiving to most persons. The most important consideration in selecting pot size is the size of the root system. I believe if you were to remove it from the pot, you would find that the roots take up less than half the total space.
