White Orchids not blooming this year

Question
QUESTION: Hello and thanks in advance.  I own a white orchid for about five years and every year it blooms at the beginning of the year.  This year it hasn't. I noticed that this year it has more leaves that previous years but no blooming yet. My boyfriend told me that it was because I got a new Orchid named Phalaenopsis and it may some how interfering with it blooming.  Please advised me

ANSWER: Brenda, there is no way that the phalaenopsis interferes with the blooming of your other orchid.  I presume that your other orchid is not a phalaenopsis.  It sounds like it may be a dendrobium.  Dendrobiums grow on canes and have leaves up and down the canes and bloom either along the canes or at the top of the cane. I would appreciate it if you could provide more information about the type of orchid or a description.  Also, where have you grown it when it did well and are you still growing it in the same location.  Also, are the newer growths as large or larger that the previous growths?

QUESTION: thanks for your promptly respond. In regard to the Phalaenopsis all the information I had is from the small tag attached to the plant with some growing tips.  It is a purple with white dots. The other orchid is white and is the one that is not blooming this year.  I've been growing them indoors nothing had change, except that I moved it to a bigger pot, with new orchid soil. The leaves are a bit larger. Until last year the white orchid only had 3 leaves, this year it has 5.
I hope this info help you to help me.
thanks again.

Answer
Brenda, it sounds as if both of your orchids are phalaenopsis including the one you referred to as the white orchid.  It sounds as if it is doing very well. Since it has bloomed before in the same location, it may just be delayed in sending out a flower spike for this year and could still flower.  Try using a bloom booster fertilizer which might facilitate the development of a flower spike.
