Question
I have trays that contain a small amount of water, glass marbles on top and
my orchids on top  on top of the marbles. I have heard that it will create a
more humid environment for orchids. I try not to let the water ever touch the
bottom of the pot. Is this really helpful?

Michele, yes it is helpful.  While humidities indoors in the winter can drop very low, air conditioning in the summer can have the same effect. I like to have a little more air circulation with a small fan to help move the humidity around the plant.  Good question.
