holes in phal leaves

Question
There are white flies around a couple of my phals and two have "chewed" appearances on the backside on the leaves and holes through on one. I'm a NOVICE!!! Should I spray or what?  Roots seem OK

Answer
If the white flies are tiny they could be fungus gnats.  See if your garden center has Sticky Traps.  These consist of coated paper that attracts flying insects and then traps them on its sticky surface. Hang one or two in the vicinity of your plants.  Fungus gnats, however, do not have biting mouth parts and will not damage your plants. More likely you have a bush snail living in the potting mix and, at times, he ventures up the plant to chew on the leaves. You should be able to find  snail/slug pellets at your local garden store.  Follow the directions on the package. Monitor the back side of your leaves from time to time to see if there is anything there that doesn't belong here.
