Wilting and dying orchid buds

Question
i bought my orchid about a week ago and then recently some of the buds that are about to open are just wrinkling up and starting to drop off and die!  I don't know what to do as don't want it to die.. I have it in my lounge where it has no direct sunlight and temp of about 15-20 some fresh air some times and have only watered it once with a little egg water as i heard this is very good for them.

Please help!! Thank you

Answer
Hello Danielle,

You did not mention what kind of orchid plant you bought but for the buds to wrinkle without opening does indicate a problem, exactly what it is I'm not sure.  You did say that it gets no direct sunlight and the temperature is between 15-20 which I assume is centigrade rather than farenheit.  Also, I have not heard of egg water so cannot comment on it.

Do you have any fruits in your lounge where the orchid plant was placed?  Ripening fruits emit ethylene gas which can be deadly to buds and flowers.  When it gets some fresh air, is the air room temperature or is it hotter or colder than the room?  Sudden temperature changes can cause buds and flower to wilt and die.

Although the flower buds may have died, the orchid plant itself may survive.  Without more information about the orchid, where you live, plus other things about where it is growing, I'm afraid I cannot be of more help at this time.
