QuestionDoes too much sun cause brown spots on Stanhopea? The temperature is hot (New Orleans) but the greenhouse has fans and water system. Thank you. P.S. Is there a was to submit a picture for your review?
AnswerHello Wendy,
Too much sun probably did not cause brown spots on your Stanhopea, it usually causes the leaves to become light green or even yellowish-green. The one thing too much sun exposure can do is cause large brown areas (sunburn) on a leaf or leaves. Small brown spots are usually caused by a fungus or bacterial infection but unless the spots grow larger, they are normally not harmful other than making the leaves look ugly.
Do you have the greenhouse fans running 24/7? Constant air movement should prevent or minimize leaf spotting. Is the Stanhopea in a basket or mesh pot with semi-open sides and bottom?
Unfortunately, there is no way to include photos in a message on this web site but if you have a photo sharing account on one of the many online sites, you could put the link to your photo in a message and I could try copy/paste it to my browser and view it.
Hope this helped but if you would like to try sending a link to your photo(s), I'll take a look at it and let you know if I find something other than what I said above.
