QuestionI have a phal that appears to have split into two plants at the base and has a keiki on one of its stems. My question is can or should I repot the main plant and in the process try to divide the plant at the base -- ending up with 2 plants and the keiki on one of the stems.
AnswerIf you truly have two plants, when you unpot them, they should be easy to separate without cutting one from the other. Just untangle their root masses and you should have two distinct plants. If you cannot separate them in this manner then you probably have one plant and I would repot as is. Keikis should not be separated from the mother plant until they have roots. There is no rush as they will continue to grow and develop their leaves and roots and some even flower while still attached to the mother plant.
