QuestionI have oncidium wildcat "yellow butterfly". It has sent up 3 new bloom stalks between 2 to to 3 feet in length. These stalks have been growing for 2 to 4 weeks and have yet to produce a bloom. Am I impatient? Or could there be a problem (lack of fertilizer, not enough water or sun)?
Thanks.
AnswerYou are impatient. The next event should be a branching of the bloom spikes. After that, the branches should begin to bud. If all continues to go well you should have a spectacular flowering. The name of the plant is properly Odontocidium Wildcat. I would encourage you to stake the bloom spikes if you haven't alread done so. This will provide a much better flower orientation as buds and flowers begin to develop.
