QuestionHi, I have had two orchids for about three years now. They bloomed beautifully the first year. However, there hasn't been any flowers last year or this year. I've been using the All Purpose Miracle Grow fertilizer. Should I be doing anything else?
AnswerFor purposes of this response, I will assume they are phalaenopsis orchids. They may require more light than you are providing. Morning sunlight s good. Check your fertilizer. It will have three numbers such as 30-10-10, 20-20-20, etc. When the spring approches (flowering time), use a plant food with a high middle number, which is phosphorous, which promotes flowering. Also, orchids neeed annual repotting so you may need to unpot your plants and repot them in an orchid potting mix. Remove any rotted roots (mushy in texture) and wash all of the old potting mix from the healthy (firm) roots prior to repotting. If you have rotting roots, this could sap the plant of the strength it needs for flowering. Try the repotting first as these plants may need the boost that repotting can provide in plenty of time before the next flowering period.
