QuestionREAD YOUR LAST RESPONSE TO DROOPING ORCHIDS. MINE, TOO, IN LESS THAN A WEEK OLD AND BEGAN DROOPING. ASSUMING TOO MUCH WATER, SHALL I PLACE IT OUTDOORS OUT OF THE SUN TO DRY IT OUT? ALTERNATIVELY, WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE (IT IS STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE - JUST DROOPING BLOOMS). THANKS!
AnswerHello Debra,
If it is only the flowers that are drooping, do you have any fruits sitting near it? Ripening fruits emit ethylene gas which is deadly to orchid flowers and unopened buds. I would be surprised if too much water is the culprit since you've only had it for about a week, it usually takes weeks for that to happen.
Unfortunately, if the blooms and/or buds have drooped quite a bit, they are goners. Hopefully the unaffected flowers and buds will remain healthy once the fruits are moved further away (over 8 feet away).
One other possible cause, if no fruits are near it, is hot or cold temperatures. By this, I mean higher than 85F or lower than 50F. Also, if the temperatures change suddenly by more than 10F either direction, that could cause this problem.
As for placing it outdoors, that would depend upon where you live and the weather it would be exposed to.
Hope this helped.
