QuestionHello, I'm a senior at the State University of New York at Cobleskill. I major in Plant Science and I'm currently doing an experiment where I have to mericlone orchids, probably moth orchids. I am looking for a good 'recipe' for a growing medium in flask. Do you know where I can find one? Or do you have any ideas? I have limited supplies, so I was looking for something simple and for the beginner. Thank you
AnswerHi again Jessica!
Located a possible source of information about orchid propagation facilities. Most of them only offer propagating services but a few might sell propagating media. Check this web site: http://www.orchidmall.com/supplies.htm
I still have not located the web site that listed various media recipes but I'll keep an eye open for it and pass it along when I do.
Hope you find something you can use in your experiment.
Jim
Hello Jessica,
Afraid I don't have a recipe handy for culturing or mericloning orchids. I used to have several references for it but cannot locate them.
You might try checking out this web site: http://orchidsource.com/GB_catalog.html . It is a commercial flasking media company.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck in your search and project. I'll keep an eye out for those sources and if I find them, I'll try to write back with them.
