QuestionI have two questions!
The spike on my cymbidium orchid snapped about three inches below the lowest bloom. Is there anything that I can do to preserve the flower?
and... When I go to trim the spike where should I cut it?
Sorry for so many questions, I'm new to this! Thanks for any help!!!
AnswerYou can trim the spike as close to its orgins as possible and treat it as any other cut flower, putting it in a vase with water. You may need to remove a couple of the bottom flowers on the spike so you have enough stem for a vase since it broke off so close to the lower flowers. Alternatively, you may be able to wrap the stem where it brokew in floral tape before placing it in a vase to provide a longer stem. The individual flowers can be pressed and dried but will not retain their shape and will lose most of their color.
