Hi Jim,

I live in San Jose, want to find a local store in bay area to buy Chinese miniature Cymbidiums. Any recommendations?

Otherwise, any good local places to buy orchid flowers and supplies?

Hello Jingyan,

The only place I know you might find some Chinese cymbidiums for sale is a shop located on DeAnza Blvd, unfortunately I don't remember the name or address, I don't even know if it is still open because I have not been to it in over a year.  If you would like to try finding it, here is what I remember.  From Highway 85 take the DeAnza Blvd exit then go towards Cupertino, about a half mile look for a car wash on the right side, drive into the parking lot after the car wash then look for the store in the far corner.  

There is an orchid nursery located between San Jose and Morgan Hill called Valley Orchids.  The address is 635 Miramonte Ave., Morgan Hill, 95037.  They have mostly phalaenopsis but carry some cymbidiums, dendrobiums, cattleyas, etc.  The best day to go is Friday because they get new shipments on Thursday.

Locally, I usually drive to Aptos to buy supplies at Maplethorpe Orchids.  They have mostly phalaenopsis and paphiopedilums along with a few other orchids.  

If you want to see lots of cymbidiums and have a few days, try to drive down to Santa Barbara on March 16 to 18, 2007 for the Orchid Show and Sale there.  All of the nurseries are open that weekend along with over 75 vendors selling just about every type of orchid.
