QuestionI now live in Miami, Fl and am planning to relocate to central Texas. I need to know the best way to move my orchids. I am planning to purchase a greenhouse for them in Texas. I must have at least 200+ plants.
Hope you can help.
Thanks
AnswerI don't know the particulars of the move, but if you are using a moving van for furniture, etc you might consider boxing your plants and puting them on the van with your other possessions. Of course, you will want to make sure they are well watered before packing them
You could ship them by bare rooting them to save space, weight, and ship via the mails. Of course, you will have a large repotting job ahead in Texas-- but maybe many will need that anyway. I used to buy orchids from a Texas grower and he used the US Postal Service Priority Mail and claimed it was the least expensive. He wrapped the plants in newspapers before boxing and, in bad weather, wrapped that in bubble pak.
