QuestionHello,
I just started growing orchids, and was wondering how far down I should cut my cymbidium flower stalk after the flowers have wilted. I appreciate your time.
AnswerHi Lorena,
Welcome to the wonderful hobby of orchid growing.
Once the flowers are gone, cut the cymbidium flower stalk off as low as you safely can. Cymbidiums will not produce a second flowering stalk from the old stalk so it is best to remove it once the flowers have died. Leaving it on will not injure the cym., it just detracts from the plant as you see a dried up stalk on it.
Hope this answered your question. If you have additional questions, ask them and I'll try to answer them. If you have questions about how to care for it, be sure to indicate where you live and whether you grow it indoors or outdoors.
