QuestionHi,
I recently recieved a dendrobium from some friends who visited Hawaii. The plant did not come with any info on what the name was. I was hoping you might look at the photo (http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/orchidsgal/msg0222234518790.jpg)
I am posting and be able to help identify it.
Thanks.
Ram

AnswerIt is not possible to identify a dendrobium hybrid strictly by its picture because there are so many that look alike. There are two general types of dendrobiums, however. The nobile type has flowers that emerge anywhere along the growth. The phalaenopsis type have flowers emerging from the top of the plant only. The former are known as cooler growing types and the latter as warmer growing. If it was purchased from an orchid nursery, they might be able to identify it-- otherwise I'm afraid you are out of luck.
