QuestionHello, I currently live in southern California but would like to grow some orchids at a gravesite in southeast Texas along the coast. Would it be possible to grow the orchids best suited for Texas with the growing conditions of California and then transport them to Texas? If not, would you be able to recommend a flower that would be able to stand the humid and sometimes dry weather of south Texas? Thank you.
AnswerThe Texas coast should provide the needed humidity for Mexican species such as Brassavola nodosa, Laelia anceps, or other Mexican Brassavolas or Laelias. While many of these grow in full sun it would be best to start them in an area with at least partial shade. You may want to send an E-mail or talk to the people at Andy's orchids. You will find contact information by searching for their website under orchid vendors on the "Orchid Mall". They import and grow many of these species and could provide more informattion about the best species and how to grow them in that environment. Andy's is a California grower. Hope this helps.
