QuestionI live in Copiague, NY 11726. Where can I purchase a crape myrtle bush? I would like to put it close to the house. Will the roots grow into my foundation. I have about 6 feet to the right of the front living room window I was thinking of putting it there. My arborvitae died from the salt water of Sandy Storm. I live on a canal. If this is not a good choice what would you suggest? I love the look of the purple crapes.
AnswerHi Anna,
Thanx for your question. Because I don't live in your area, I can't advise on where to purchase the crape myrtle but you're in a good zone for one to grow nicely. You should be able to locate a suitable shrub in your local nurseries and even some of the big box DIYs like Home Depot or Lowe's. I would go with a local nursery first. Also, the people at the Suffolk County Extension Office - Master Gardeners can probably give you more precise advice. Here is a local contact. I hope this helps.
