QuestionWe have a front yard on a sloping hill that is covered with Junipers. Recently it has been taken
over by weeds of all kinds. There are literally more weeds than Junipers on exactly one half. For some reason the left side only has a few that we can pick out. Anyway, I know Roundup would kill the Junipers. Is there a weed killer that will take care of the weeds? Its too thick now to hand pick them. We tried last yr and now there are SO many more. We have to have our landscaper use the weed eater and trim them down level with the tops of the Junipers for appearance sake. If its too
late and we need to take the Junipers out, how would you recommend doing this. Could you burn them out so there is nothing to pull up? or do i have to hire someone to pull them all out so we can
get to the weeds and either plant grass or plant new Junipers. Or do we pour round up on the whole mess and THEN pull everything up when its dead. Thanks for your help in this big project.
AnswerHi Deborah,
Thanx for your question. I'm not aware of a product that will not harm the Junipers. One thing we have done in the past was get Roundup?and (wearing gloves) apply it to the weeds with a brush so that the contact with the surrounding plans was minimized. I know a large area is going to be a pain but this method was workable and helped save a lot of our plants while getting rid of the weeds. I recommend you talk to our tree expert Jim Hyland over on the Trees forum. Jim has 34 years experience with the Forestry Service and he may have some input on this that might help. He is on vacation until Oct. 3. I hope this helps.
