QuestionI live in the Seattle area. I have some fuchsias that got brown this summer. Do I cut them back before winter? How far would I cut them?
AnswerHi Kristine,
Do you know what kind of fuchsias you have? The deciduous ones (lose their leaves) can be pruned from November to early spring. Cut them back to about 6 inches above the ground. Evergreen fuchsia can be pruned in mid spring. Prune carefully and don't prune too hard unless it is really overgrown. Were your plants newly planted or have they been in the ground for a few seasons? New plants might have some initial reaction to the sun but older plants should be fine in the Pacific NW, even on an unusually hot day. Don't plant in the shade, always plant in full sun at your latitude. I hope this helps. Here's a link that you might find helpful.
