QuestionQUESTION: Hi! I think I gave my hydrangeas too much liquid fertilizer. I diluted it according to directions but I gave them a lot-like maybe a half gallon . The bushes are big and healthy but then the flowers faded and got brown on the edges. They had bloomed for a long time so it could have been time for them to go! Will they likely bloom again this summer? What should I do?
ANSWER: Hi Jane,
Thanx for your question. Most hydrangeas bloom once in the summer but the blooms can be long-lasting. There are some rebloomers available, notably Endless Summer and Forever and Ever. Most likely your hydrangeas will not rebloom if they are not one of these hybrids. I wouldn't do anything to my hydrangeas except remove the spent flowers for aesthic reasons, otherwise, just let them be. Make sure they get an inch of water a week and feed them according to the directions you have been following. If you must prune, do it now, and only now, right after blooming. You will have nice blooms again next year. I hope this helps.

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick response. My hydrangeas are indeed Endless Summer. I did cut the spent flowers. Anything else to do to help them bloom again?
AnswerHi Jane,
Thanx for your question. By deadheading/pruning the old blooms off, your Endless Summer hydrangea should rebloom again in a few weeks. Here is a link for you regarding this hybrid.
