QuestionBROUGHT SOME COLEUS PLANTS INSIDE MY HOME BEFORE THE FROST. I USED SOME POTTING MIX SOIL FOR INSIDED PLANTS ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO, I ALSO PUT FERTILIZER SPIKES IN THE POTS. THE SOIL IN THE POTS ARE STILL MOIST. IS THAT NORMAL, IT SEEMS LIKE THEY SHOULD NEED WATERING BY NOW. THEY DON'T GET MUCH SUNLIGHT BUT THEY GET PLENTY OF FLOURSCENT LIGHTING.
ANY INFORMATION WILL BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
AnswerHello Sallie
Do the plants look 'happy' - leaves looking fresh and full of life? If that is the case, stop worrying! Just keep checking the soil.
If, on the other hand the leaves look droopy or are falling off, it may be that they are a little too wet. In that case it might be a good idea to take them out of their present pots, leave them in a sink to drain off any excess water and then repot them in fresh compost. Keep the pots in plant-pot saucers. Don't water them for a few days and keep an eye on them. If they look unhappy, water them by putting water into the saucers and letting the compost soak it up.
During the winter period most plants just need to be kept damp, not fed and at a temperature not less that 45 degrees F. Good light is needed, but if fluorescent light is all you've got, not doubt the plants will do alright.
