QuestionIs it too late in the season (October 11) to separate and transplant siberian irises? We are zone 4 (just north of Albany, NY) and have had unusually mild fall weather and no frost yet. I am not concerned about next years blooms, but I don't want to kill the plants. Thank you!
AnswerHello Sherri
As long as the weather remains mild the soil should still be warm so it should be OK to transplant your irises now, although they may not have time to put down new roots before the colder weather arrives. After the transplant you could cover the plants with a good covering of compost or a cloche for this winter - remember to remove the covering in the Spring!
