QuestionWhen do you prune fuchsias grown outside on Central Oregon Coast? (Mine grow as perennials)
AnswerGreetings Cece,
Your timing for this question is excellent. The best time to prune perennial fuchsias is in the fall. You probably know that you should cut about a quarter of an inch above the leaf joints. New growth will normally appear in three to four weeks. In spring, you can perform additional pruning if you like. At that point you will be pruning off the new growth after 3 new pairs of leaves. The purpose of this spring pruning is to create a bushy, well shaped plant.
Additionally, in the spring, fertilize weekly with a balanced fertilizer. That should keep your plant happy.
Does this help? Please do not hesitate to follow up if you feel the need.
