QuestionQUESTION: I'm looking for a low growing ground cover to plant around a stepping stone walk way. I live in Miami Florida and the area gets very little shade. I would like to plant a thyme ground cover, but not sure if any of them will grow in Miami? If not any suggestions?
Thanks
Annette
ANSWER: Hi Annette,
Thanx for your question. Is this a plant that's going to get a lot of foot traffic or just something to cover the ground? I don't think creeping thyme is going to be a good choice because it's too humid and hot. Let me know about the foot traffic.
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: The traffic will be light. The area is about 3ft by 15ft, its a side yard that I want to replace the grass for easier maintenance. Someone suggested Dichondra micrantha, would that work? Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Terry
AnswerHi Annette,
Thanx for the follow up. Dichondra micrantha would be good. Here are some links for other suggestions for ground cover. Many are not for foot traffic. So just gloss over those...

Also, I think you indicated you were in the Miami area. If this doesn't help, contact the University of Florida Extension and Dade County Master Gardeners. They can give you some good advice for local conditions and it's free! I used to be a Master Gardener with Kansas State University Extension here in Wyandotte County, Kansas City, Kansas. See link below for Dade County.

I hope this helps.
