QuestionI got a rubrum lily in a pot. I will plant it outside tomorrow. I am planning to plant it in a bigger pot. will this be a good idea? and after planting should I put fertilizer like miracle grow etc? thank you.
AnswerHi Anagha,
Thanx for your question. Lilium speciosum var. 'rubrum' is hard to Zone 4 a. You don't need to grow it in a pot unless you have no yard, etc. If you want to put the bulb in a larger pot, that's fine. Make sure the pot will allow you to plant the bulb 8 inches deep. Mix some well-composted manure in with the dirt. You can use Miracle Gro?if you must. But, I prefer side dressing the plant with well composted manure once in the spring and once in mid-summer. Water frequently in the summer when it is hot as this plant does not like to dry out. I hope this helps.
