sweet broom


Question
i just bought a sweet broom for my front porch for awhile i planted it like it said i water it like it say to do but all the flowers have dried up and it look like it is going to die they are a few green twigs that are still there i've moved it off the porch where the sun is always on it to a semi-sun area any idea i what i can do or is this normal for this type of plant  live in texas

Hi Pam,
Thanx for your question.  Did you plant the sweet broom in a container/pot?  It sounds to me like the shrub got stressed.  I'll wager it's pretty warm in Texas by now and the combination of warm weather and transplanting has stressed the plant out which results in the flowers and leaves dropping.  Make sure you keep the plant thoroughly watered but not sitting in water.  The water should be free draining.  Side dress the plant with well-composted manure and eventually, the plant will come out of the stress.  Transplanted shrubs will often drop leaves and flowers as the stress from the injured roots causes the plant to put all its resources into repairing the roots.  I hope this helps.
