QuestionMy neighbor gave me some seed and I was told they were stella de oro daylilly but then another neighbor gave me some seeds and said they were the same thing,(completly different seed). Anyway, the first ones are smaller then a pea, round, with a dark black outer covering, inside they are brown. The second ones are tiny, brown, almost powdery. how do I tell? Also, do stellasr2 come in different colors? Thanks so much.
AnswerHi Diana,
Thanx for your question. Stella d'oro lilies (daylily) should be small, black seeds. The powdery, dust stuff, I can't tell you what that is but it's not stella d'oro seed. Perhaps it's another flower that your friend has mistaken for something else. For tiny powdery seed, I just broadcast it over the top of the potting soil, keep moist but not soggy. The stella d'oro, I would press into the soil and cover. Stella D'oro are yellow but they may have some variation in some coloring in the throat of the blossom. I hope this helps.
