Does the plant need to be pruned and if so when?

Hi Art,
Thanx for your queston.  Which kind of hibiscus do you have?  Tropical or hardy?

The hardy hibiscus should be cut down to the ground at the onset of the first frost.  A tropical hibiscus can be pruned to keep shape and to keep it from getting too big.  Just prune back the areas that don't conform to the shape or size you want.  Let me know if this is enough.  Tropical hibiscus can be pruned whenever you like but remember that pruning will reduce blooming until new growth catches up with the pruning.
