QuestionI have to grow plants on a deck now. I am successful during the summer, and have tried putting my plants in the under-house garage, watering occasionally. Not great, and now I have two really lovely lavenders. I am in New England.
I have put the plants in their pots into a large pot and put bubble sheets around them. What are my chances? Any ideas please. (Wish I could find some salt hay!!)
Thank you for any help.
AnswerHi Virginia,
Thanx for your question. If you will can shelter the pots from the cold north wind, this will help dramatically. Placing the bubble sheets around the pots will also reduce contact with bitterly cold temperatures. English lavender is hardy to Zone 5 and sometimes 4b. The idea of utting the pots in the garage is a good one as long as the garage is cold and stays cold. Water once a week to keep the roots alive. If you have access to an unheated shed, you can put the pots in that structure and safely overwinter. I hope this helps.
