QuestionI have a potted hydrangea.
I live in Atlanta, GA
It bloomed big blue flowers earlier this year then I trimmed them
It is starting to bloom new flowers.
I have brought it into the house since it's cold outside.
The leaves were bright green, but now they are turning brown and crispy.
Why? I water it once a day. Is that too much or not enough?
Help please.
AnswerHi Desirai,
Thanx for your question. Potted hydrangeas are difficult to propagate once their primary blooming has passed. There are a number of these types of plants the floral industry sells as gifts for mothers and girlfriends, hospitals, funerals, etc. The type of hydrangea you have is best grown in a greenhouse. It likes cool but not cold temps. Probably around 65癋/18癋 to 70癋/21癈. A fairly humid environment and damp but not soggy soil. You may want to place it in a window where it will get about 6 hours of diffused sunlight. Makes sure the pot drains well and it doesn't get wet feet or root rot could result, destroying the whole plant. Get some Miracid?or other acid-type fertilizer. Follow the directions on the box for fertilizing the plant periodically. Watering once a day is definitely too much. These plants are generally hardy only to Zone 9 which would be down in Florida, some parts of Texas, Southern Arizona and Southern California. You were right to bring the plant in for the winter although I don't think there is any danger of frost currently in the Atlanta area. I hope this helps.
