QuestionWhen do you plant seed from liyylys spring or fall
AnswerHello Prue
Thank you for your question.
You should , by now, have taken the seed pods off the lilies.
Open them up, extract the seeds and lay them out on kitchen paper to dry.
Once they are dry, plant seeds into a flat pan or pot and cover them with 1/2 inch of fine potting compost. Place them into a cold-frame or unheated greenhouse.
The seedlings, once they appear, will need 14/16 hours of light a day. They need to be kept moist and given a half strength feed of a general liquid fertilizer every 14 days or so.
When the bulblets are about the size of a filbert, plant them into individual pots. Keep them growing on during the summer - take care to keep them moist - and plant them out into the garden next October.
Be prepared to be patient - it takes 2-3 years for the bulbs to mature and produce flowers. Well worth the wait for something you love!
Good luck
