Lariope seeds

Question
I live in Central Texas, Waco to be exact.  My yard has quite a large number of lariope that are now covered with a berry-like seed. I am trying to develop a large area with lariope and I am asking when I can "pick" these berries; are they actually seeds: when do I pick and when do I plant and how deep do I plant?  I have very large trees all over the front and back yards so grass won't grow in those places.  Will the Lariope do OK?

Answer
Hello Jeanne

Lariope is very difficult to propagate from seed.  It is much better to divide existing plants in the spring.

To to that, just dig up a plant and tease the roots apart.  Replant immediately into their new homes.  You may get as many of 4 or 5 new plants, depending on the size of the parent.  You'll fill your yard in no time!
