QuestionHi: I have 3 plants in my garden. Two are quite normal and one has strange pods at the end of stems that are bending over. The pods are full of round items they are all touching each other and look very snug. I simply do not know what the heck they are. No experience with this plant.
AnswerHi Joan,
Thanx for your question. It sounds like you have seed pods at the end of your calla lilies. This is common. You can snip them off as they will suck a lot of energy out of the rhizomes, or, if you want to try to grow them from seed. remove the pod when it dries out a bit more. The seeds are easy to germinate at 75癋/24癈, planted about 1/2 inch deep in moist but not soggy potting soil. They germinate in less than 2 weeks. They have a high light requirement so make sure you have a 40-watt shop light suspended about 8 inches above the pots. You can get the shoplights rather inexpensively at Walmart or DIYs. If the parent plant is a hybrid, the seedlings will probably not resemble the parent plants due to hybridization. I hope this helps.
