Wisteria

Question
We had a bit of a hot spell and our wisteria is about 3 years old has made it threw all kinds of weather but after 3 days of 100 degree weather it went from looking very healthy to crispy leaves overnight. Ground seemed moist. we live in the pacific NW Washington state, could it be the hot weather spell we had or something else that caused this damage?

Answer
Hi Cindy,
Thanx for your question.  It sounds quite possible that the unusually hot temperatures caused the plant to temporarily suffer a set back.  Check the soil to make sure it isn't too dry.  If it is, give the plant a good soaking and then soak it well once a week until regular rains return.  If the ground is too moist for some reason, you may have to move the plant because it may be suffering root rot (you indicated the soil seemed moist...).  Watch the plant for the next couple of weeks.  Looks for insects or fungus.  I think it's just the heat.  I hope this helps.
Tom
