tulip bulbs, lillies

Question
I know , or I think I know, that the best time to move bulbs and plants is in the fall, but I may be forced to move them shortly. I have to move tulip bulbs, Lillie bulbs and daylillies, plus a couple of roses. Is there anything special that I need to do to move them now? I am in Iowa, and the weather is especially hot and humid right now.

Answer
Hi Michael,
Thanx for your question.  You can move anything you want right now, just use the following tips.

Cut back green growth to make it easier to handle the plants.  You can even cut the rose bushes back to within a few inches above the crown.  It's best to dig things up and transplant in the morning when it is relativley cool.  After you've done this, soak the daylights out of them so they have plenty of water and then I would soak them once a week for the next couple weeks if there is no regular rain.  They should be fine.  I hope this helps.
Tom
