QuestionI live in zone 6, do i have to dig my gladolia bulbs and dry them every year? If so, when do I dig them and when do I replant them? Thanks for your advice.
AnswerHi Tabatha,
Thanx for your question. Gladioli (plural for gladiolus) are not reliably hardy in zones colder than Zone 7 although I have had some winter over in the backyard, during warmer winters here at the edge of Zone5/6. I recommend digging up the corms after the first frost. Shake off (do not wash off) dirt and cut off any dead foliage. Store the corms in a netted bag in a cool, dry, dark place in the basement until after the first frost. Plant 6 inches deep after the first frost and soil temps are above 60癋 (15-16癈). The should start to flower about 90 days afterwards. I hope this helps.
