QuestionHow can I safely get rid of weeds in juniper ground covering? We have a large hill and the juniper is nice but the weeds keep coming up. HELP!!
THANKS!
AnswerHi Tess,
Thanx for your question. You can put Preen in the bare spots until the juniper takes over completely. It will prevent the germination of weed seeds but it won't control perennial growth. So, it won't harm the juniper but it also will not harm perennial weed roots already established. It just prevents germination of seeds. The only other safe thing I can recommend is spot treatment. The easiest way, if you don't have a jungle of weeds, is to wear some gloves and pour some Roundup?in a plastic container and using a paint brush, apply it to the weeds. It may take several applications but this will also prevent the Roundup?from getting on the juniper and will save it from being damaged or even killed. If you have a jungle of weeds, you may be able to apply a weedkiller easily. I hope this helps.
