QuestionA friend gave me 2 small amaryllis bulbs from a plant that was finished blooming. Is it too late to plant the bulbs. I live in southern Indiana. Her flowers were beautiful. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank You
AnswerHi Johnna,
Thanx for your question. Go ahead and plant your amaryllis bulbs in separate pots. They'll probably send out strap-like leaves this summer and leave the leaves alone so they can gather energy from the sun. Eventually, the leaves with wither and disappear this fall. Close to Christmas, the flowers should begin to emerge. Remember that amaryllis is not hardy outdoors in Indiana during the winter. In the summer, Amaryllis enjoy being given a summer vacation outdoors on the deck or porch. Just make sure they get a little protection from the hot, afternoon sun. Keep watered. I hope this helps.
