QuestionMy man fern is about 10 ft. high and I would like to know if I cut it down to about 5 ft. will the fronds grow again out of the surface of the bottom half. I will transplant the top half in another spot in the garden.
AnswerHi Jan,
Thanx for your question. Dicksonia antarctica or the Man Fern as you probably know is a tree fern native to Australia. The "trunk" is really just dead plant material that continues to support the plant as it grows upward. If you cut off the plant at 5 feet and there are no side shoots, you should be able to grow the top 5 feet as you indicated but no fronds will come out of the bottom half. If there are side shoots, you will get new plants from that. I hope this helps.
