mycorrhizae

Question
I garden on sandy soil and make my own compost. Is it worth it to buy mycorrihizae to add to the soil to improve the growth of my plants? Does the compost already have these fungi?

Answer
Hi Mary Jo,
Thanx for your question.  I've never used mycorrhizae.  Why not use composted horse or cow manure?  It's a good enrichment for the soil and it's cheap and plentiful.  A lot of compost does already have mycorrhrizae, naturally in the soil.  Along with using composted manure, you can use leaves and grass clippings to amend your soil.  I hope this helps.
Tom
