Cordyline RedStars

Question
Hi I live in Utah and I have 7 RedStars and winter is coming and I wonder what I should do to protect them through the winter? They are doing great with the frost, but I wonder if the snow will crush their shape. Please help.

Answer
Hi Brandy,
Thanx for your question.  Cordyline Red Star is only hardy to Zone 7.  A few frosts probably won't hurt the plant but sustained tempertures below 25癋/-4癈 will result in the plant's death.

Here's a map of Utah hardiness zones.

Unles you are in southern Utah or near the shore  of the Great Salt Lake, the cordylines are probably not going to successfully overwinter.  You could dig them up and put them in tubs and store them in a cool basement or garage where it does not freeze for the winter.

I hope this helps.
Tom
